Just Do YOU

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

-The Beatles, “Blackbird”

All of those big moments in life such as landing your dream job, falling in love, having a child, moving, and traveling are the culmination of all of the little moments- painful, happy, sad, hopeless, ecstatic, lost, afraid- that finally come together for that beautiful, surreal moment that sets your life on a new course. We look all around us and see others having these big moments and we feel as though we are falling behind or stuck if we haven’t experienced ours yet, whatever that is. However, when we are busy looking at others we fail to acknowlDont-Judge-My-Storyedge the reality that the every day successes and failures, the ups and the downs, the tears and the smiles, got that person to that very moment and it does not serve us to compare where we are to where they are. Facebook is one of the destructive tools for getting lost in the comparison of your current life situation to another persons, despite the fact that we each have a completely unique set of circumstances that bring us to where we are at any given moment. A quote that sums this up very well by Evan Carmichael is, “Don’t compare your Chapter 1 to someone else’s Chapter 20. Everyone’s journey is different. Just do YOU.” It’s all you can do, and that is more than enough! You too will get to your Chapter 20 at the right time, right place. It may take longer than expected and you might lose hope at Chapter 17, but it only takes one more step to get you to where you’ve been dreaming to be. And what an amazing story it will be.
